Alumnus Makes Outreach in Belize Possible

A group of faculty, alumni, staff, and students used the spring break of 2008 to roll up their sleeves at a primary school in Bella Vista, Belize, in an outreach project sponsored by Virtexco Construction Company and the company's president and CEO, Robert Wells (building construction, '73), and his wife, Jan.

Participating were: Robert and Jan Wells; Jack Davis, College of Architecture and Urban Studies Dean; Christine Fiori, assistant director of undergraduate programs, industry relations, and outreach for the Myers-Lawson School of Construction; Tony Songer, associate professor of civil and environmental engineering; Melissa Ripepi, then associate outreach coordinator for the Myers-Lawson School of Cnstruction; Josh-Curry-Cohen, of Kiewit Southern (building construction, '03); Chris Strock, a construction engineering and management graduate student and the project consultant; and 17 undergraduate and graduate students.

The group tackled projects for the school, including the design
and construction of a water distribution system and other construction-related projects on the grounds of Our Lady of
Bella Vista Primary School.
